Benches on Parade

Pure Grace at Daystar

Daystar was proud to participate in Rochester’s Benches on Parade.  Thanks to our good friends at Dixon Schwabl, Daystar’s bench was designed and painted by local artist Heather Heffernan and featured the names of our favorite “stars.” Donors had the opportunity to honor a special child, parent, friend or other loved one by placing their name inside a shining star on the bench.    Our bench, appropriately named “Pure Grace,” was on display at Nazareth College throughout the summer.  The project raised $10,000 and invaluable community awareness for Daystar.

We are delighted to share that Daystar will be the permanent home of “Pure Grace.”  While it will surely be a wonderful addition to our Lochnavar home, we look forward to having it adorn a new Daystar, as a welcoming sign to all who visit.  We hope the bench will serve as a place of rest, a spot to share a cozy conversation with a Daystar friend, and a reminder of the generosity of our countless supporters.

About Benches on Parade

Benches on parade showcases local creativity and civic pride while helping raise funds for local not-for-profits like Daystar.  Benches are functional, usable art! Benches on Parade is a community arts project featuring 200 benches decorated by area artists which will raise money for local non-profits. Artists will get to show off their creativity, transforming the basic design into unique works of art. The benches will be displayed all across the Greater Rochester area, allowing everyone to sit back and enjoy the show!  In September 2010 the benches were be auctioned off to the highest bidder. A portion of the auction proceeds benefit Nazareth College Arts Center, Rochester City Ballet, the New York Wine and Culinary Center and an additional 501(c)3 non-profit of the high-bidder’s choice.  Visit www.benchesonparade.com to learn more.
